Futures Garden – A 3D Scanning
Central Scanning helped with the creation of the Futures Garden recently displayed at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show this May!
The garden celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the charity Meningitis Now and was created by garden designer and sculptor John Everiss. In 2015 John received praise for The Evaders Garden, in which featured a striking multi-layered sculpture that Central Scanning helped create by 3D scanning John dressed in his father’s WWII pilot uniform.
Earlier this year, John visited our headquarters to work with us again, this time accompanied by members of Meningitis Now and with a new vision in mind. Our Applications Engineer Tom White consulted with John as to what he wanted to achieve from the procedure. He then carefully 3D scanned four members of the charity who had suffered with the disease.
Tom used the Artec Eva 3D Scanner to scan these individuals due to its effectiveness at capturing body data quickly and accurately. The process was filmed by the BBC and shown on BBC Midlands Today.
Using a combination of Artec Studio 10 and Polyworks 2016 software, Tom filled in all of the data holes making the captured scan data water-tight.
The data was then passed to CEC Woodworking to cut laminated Canadian cedar wood sculptures that would be positioned in various locations around the Futures Garden, where a Greek themed folly depicting the charity’s motto of ‘Believe and Achieve’ would be the centre piece. This beautiful garden with its detailed sculptures helped depict how young people’s lives can be effected by the meningitis disease.
The finished garden looked amazing and Central Scanning were honoured to be a part of such a special project.
